Aviation Capable Weather Observation System
This project is upgrading the current automated weather observation systems, enhancing existing limited observation sites, replacing selected sites that were decommissioned due to unavailability of parts, and maintaining commonality amongst the CAF weather observation systems.
48 systems are being installed; 22 Limited Weather Information Systems (LWIS) at North Warning System (NWS) Short Range Radar (SRR) sites, and 26 AWOS at the NWS' 7 Long Range Radar (LRR) sites and 19 at various CAF locations (including CFS Alert).
