Dear Canadian soldiers and veterans, I am a grade 11 student at John Oliver Secondary School and have recently been studying and reading different texts that are connected to what you do for our country and for others. I am writing this letter to acknowledge all that you have been through to keep peace in the place that I call home. I do not think I can fully express how thankful this country and I am for the sacrifices that you have made. The physical and psychological hardships that you have had to experience and endure for strangers are unremarkable. I have learnt more about the mental scars that are kept with you after serving and how hard it is to fully move past everything you have gone through. We have been studying trauma, injustices, and standing up for what is right, all things that you, as soldiers, must deal with daily. I am forever grateful for the fact that I can live in a country without constant war or the constant fear which comes with it. Because of your sacrifices, your hardships, your relentless motivation, strength, and courage; I can sleep in my bed peacefully, I am able to go to school peacefully, and I am able to live my life peacefully. Because of the sacrifice of your friends and your family, I can feel safe when I am with mine. Thank you for all that you do and all that you have done, and I hope that you know that Canada is grateful.

Ethan - 13/12/2021
Wallaceburg, Ontario Canada

Hi I'm Ethan. I'm a grade 7 student. I like playing sports, listening to music and playing games. I hope you have a safe Christmas and make it back to your family for Christmas. I asked for a new skateboard and a TV in my room. I like comedy horror movies like the Dead Don't Die. I also like to cook. What's your favorite food and things you like to do? If I could travel anywhere it would be Japan specifically to Tokyo because it would be cool to learn their language and eat their food. Where would you like to go on vacation? I would like to thank you for serving our country. I appreciate that you protect our country and families. Stay safe and Merry Christmas! I hope you make it home safe and are able to visit with your family even if its not in person. Ethan

Dear brave Soldier, Thank you for protecting our country and I just wanted to thank you for all you have done. We are all proud of you for your bravery to evan join the military. You should be proud of your self. Your commitment to protecting others and representing your country. Canada is proud of you.I wonder what it is like to be overseas it must be so hard for you because you probably miss your family. Someday I want to do what you do and help protect my country. Not everyone can do what you can do. I would not be doing what I am doing right now if it was not for you and the Canadian army. I would also be writing this if it was not for you. I wish you a merry Merry Christmas and send you my appreciation. Merry Christmas, Zac

James - 13/12/2021

Dear brave soldier I know you get a lot of these, but I want you to know that we appreciate all of your hard work that you put in, all day every day for us. I know that some days it may not feel like people appreciate it but trust me we care and we love everything you do for us. While you read this I want to ask you some questions. How are you doing today? What's it like wherever you might be? Some days I wonder if it's boring when there are no battles, is it? I want you to know that I am able to live a perfectly safe life and get to play sports and go to school because of you. I would like to wish you and all of the other soldiers there Merry christmas. I know it might be hard because you can't spend time with your family during christmas but just think of all your fellow soldiers and the people sending you letters because we all care about you. Everyone deep down even if they don't show it every one loves and appreciates the stuff you do. Finally Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Sincerely, James
